Masked

On Saturday the Washington Post broke the story (link here) about how the United States, with the Trump administration's blessing, sent millions of face masks and other medical equipment to China earlier this year when coronavirus began threatening the United States.

"U.S. manufacturers shipped millions of dollars’ worth of face masks and other protective medical equipment to China in January and February with encouragement from the federal government," the article reports. "The move underscores the Trump administration’s failure to recognize and prepare for the growing pandemic threat."

"In those two months, the value of protective masks and related items exported from the United States to China grew more than 1,000 percent compared with the same time last year — from $1.4 million to about $17.6 million... Similarly, shipments of ventilators and protective garments jumped by triple digits."

Now, flash forward to April, and the Trump administration has been busy seizing individual states' orders of ventilators, masks, and other medical equipment for stockpiling, notwithstanding the President has claimed he's been sending supplies to the states. At least six states to date have seen their supplies that they paid for themselves seized (details here).

It's gotten so bad that one state, Illinois, organized secret missions to acquire and ship masks, gloves, and other medical equipment so the Trump administration couldn't grab them (details here). Things have gotten pretty bad when states have to smuggled critically needed medical supplies to their own hospitals.

Throw this on the already massive pile of reasons why Donald Trump must be defeated in November.

Shrinking

Yesterday, the Boston Globe published a superb opinion piece (link here) with the title "The Incredible Shrinking President" and the secondary title of "As the country staggers through the coronavirus pandemic, Trump appears increasingly irrelevant."

Consider the following excerpt:

"Governors and mayors are providing vital information and genuine comfort to their fellow citizens. Health care workers, scientists, grocery store clerks, food bank volunteers, and first responders toil on the front lines of this crisis, rarely acknowledged or praised by the President. The gap between their selflessness and Trump's self-absorption is yawning."

"It's difficult to ignore the President of the United States. Yet, in the midst of the worst public health crisis to strike this country in more than a century, there's no denying the fact that rather than being the nation's 'total authority,' Trump has become an increasingly irrelevant figure."

Click the link and read the whole piece. It's not long — only fifteen paragraphs. Share with like-minded acquaintances, too.

Horse Hung

A very eager and experienced bottom has no problem accommodating a horse-hung top. It's curious how the latter seems rather timid and mild-mannered when he enters the room, but once he drops his pants, his alpha side comes out to play.

Pathetic

The Washington Post broke the story yesterday (link here) about how smugglers sawed through Donald Trump's much ballyhooed border wall eighteen times in a single month in just one portion.

How many hours of administration planning time and billions of dollars in taxpayer money did Trump waste on his worthless wall whilst concurrently ignoring the grave danger of coronavirus looming over the country?

Too Slow

According to a poll released yesterday by the prestigious Pew Research Center, 65 percent of Americans — nearly two-thirds of American adults — now believe Donald Trump "was too slow to take major steps to address the threat to the United States when cases of [coronavirus] were first reported in other countries" (details here).

Nearly the same percent believe the country will be rushed into resuming normal life too soon, both suggesting a fundamental distrust of Trump and a deep concern about the virus. And nearly three fourths of Americans believe the worst is still to come in the coronavirus scare.

This underscores the fact that the public is not being fooled by Trump's attempts to look like he's been on top of the problem. And it also provides proof that Trump's reelection chances indeed are bleak (details here).

The Name

In a blatant attempt to use public resources as a campaign vehicle, Donald Trump's name will appear on all of the economic stimulus checks being mailed in forthcoming weeks to tens of millions of Americans (details here).

To add insult to injury, the initial batch of three million checks may be delayed to accommodate this last-minute change.

Notwithstanding the stimulus was cobbled together and approved by a bipartisan Congress, Trump clearly is attempting to fool people into thinking he alone is responsible for the checks. To further this sham, he also wanted his personal signature to appear on each of the checks; however, that proved not legally possible because he's not a signatory on the paying account.

There is no depth to which Trump will not stoop to promote himself. Some people are desperately awaiting these checks and to delay them in order to fluff Trump's ego is truly disgusting.

The Democratic House should sue to force Trump's campaign to bear the entire cost of production and mailing what is, in effect, campaign literature. That would immediately bankrupt his reelection coffers.

The Tenth Amendment

During his near daily "press briefing" on Monday, which is actually an attempt to use the White House as a stage set for a reelection rally, Donald Trump made a number of surreal, incorrect, and unconstitutional assertions like "when somebody is the President of the United States, the authority is total."

He also said "The President of the United States calls the shots. [States and governors] can't do anything without the approval of the President of the United States."

He also claimed there were "numerous provisions" in the Constitution granting him such fiat authority, but of course he didn't name what they were.

That's because they don't exist.

Indeed, the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution specifically reserves certain powers to the states and neither Trump nor anyone else in the federal government has a right to overrule the states (details here and here).

Trump was claiming that he has the power to force governors to "reopen" their states, to order businesses to reopen, for schools to begin again, and on and on. In fact, he has no such powers.

The most disturbing thing about this incident is that it once again underscores how profoundly ignorant Trump is about the American Constitution. You'd think after more than three years as President he'd finally have read the damn thing, but it's obvious he almost certainly hasn't.

Ten Times

On Sunday, Axios published an enlightening piece (link here) about how, on at least ten different occasions in January and February, Donald Trump was warned by experts both in and out of the American government about the looming danger of the coronavirus outbreak.

Yet he did nothing.

While lying to the American people about the severity of the danger.

I certainly hope Democrats use this kind of information to hammer Trump on the campaign trail this year. His gross negligence, failure to act, and ineptitude make his reelection a grave threat to this country and its people.

Why should Trump be given another four years when he so badly failed in his first four years?

Disgusting

Last Thursday, the Denver Post published an editorial (link here) about Donald Trump's whole new level of corruption — he's handing out lifesaving ventilators as political favors.

The editorial begins powerfully: "Trump is treating life-saving medical equipment as emoluments he can dole out as favors to loyalists. It’s the worst imaginable form of corruption — playing political games with lives. For the good of this nation during what should be a time of unity, he must stop."

The piece then goes on to detail how when Colorado's Democratic governor begged for ventilators, he got nothing. When the state's Republican Senator asked the Trump administration, he got ventilators.

If a state doesn't have a GOP governor or any GOP Senators, they may be shit out of luck.

Ventilators are critically necessary. If a patient needs one and can't get one, there's a good chance he or she will die.

Hence, people will die because Trump is playing politics.

This is criminal. What a horrible, horrible man. Hopefully when things calm down somewhat, prosecutors can dig deeper into this and file charges as soon as he leaves office.

This is yet another example of why Trump must not be reelected.
