Unmitigated Disaster

Donald Trump traveled to Puerto Rico yesterday "to survey the damage," but his trip will probably go down in history as one of the worst presidential visits ever.

Trump bizarrely said to the assembled group of Puerto Rican officials that they should be proud they have only had sixteen deaths confirmed to date as a result of the hurricane, compared to the death toll, to use his words, "in a real catastrophe" like Hurricane Katrina (details here).

This surreal statement is profoundly bizarre for a number of reasons. Scores of the dead in Puerto Rico have not yet been counted. Morgues are filled to capacity. Many bodies have yet to be recovered because much of the island is still inaccessible. So celebrating "minor" death is both woefully premature and hugely vulgar.

At the same time, it shows how Trump thinks everything is a competition. Disasters apparently are like a golf game in his mind -- the lower the score, the better you did. And, of course, he thinks that reflects well on him.

The nonsense he spouted will be no consolation to the people who lost everything because of the hurricane -- their homes, their jobs, and all their possessions, not to mention membs of his own family.

Trump spent much of his time before cameras praising himself and his administration, as if people would believe something simply because he said it. This may sit well with his slavishly devoted supporters, but for people in a disaster zone, it would come across as craven and heartless.

David Graham at The Atlantic wrote an excellent piece yesterday (link here) with the title "Trump's Puerto Rico Visit Is a Political Disaster." It handily demonstrates how woefully unfit Trump is to be President.

When will Republicans wake up to the monster they put in the White House? And then when will they do something about it?

  2. I saw «45» throw some paper rolls to a crowd and some of his showing to some Porto Ricans.

VULGAR you said: you're damn right.
This man is so selfish and vulgar in his ways to act in such sad situations.

Since the Neo Nazi's riots, he showed how unfit he is in the office to represent ALL Americans.

This guy has brain damage and surely NO HEART to say such insanities to American people that are struck by all those natural catastrophies.

This isn't one of his cheap a reality show where it's all about competition between déplorables contestants.

I'm eager to see him out of the White House even if I'm a Canadian and maybe because I'm a Canadian, friend of Americans, and wishing them the best than that moron in office.

  3. It also bears mentioning that he ended the event on an even MORE insulting note: he stood up bagan to toss rolls of paper towels at the audience! I'm only surprised that he didn't toss coins at them in the hope that they would scramble to retrieve.

    1. OMG! When I saw it on news, it was like seeing a scene of «Twilight Zone». LOL !

One more of his public apparence where he shows that «HE» isn't acting as a president but more like a clown.

Never, NEVER, Obama would even think of acting in such a «non presidential» manner. He had more «class» than this moron.

It's more than time to get «45» out of the White House.
