Silver Linings

Last week's midterms had some surprises but it also saw the end of some particularly odious politicians who lost their elections. Vice put together a cheeky article highlighting this hall of fame (link here) with the title "The Biggest Assholes Who Lost the Midterms." the subhead reads "Ted Cruz might have won, but a lot of other fuckheads lost."

Some notable examples:

Republican Scott Walker and the sitting governor of Wisconsin lost his attempt at a third term. Walker made a name for himself as a deeply corrupt partisan hack who gleefully attacked unions to satisfy his corporate backers. He's an arrogant son-of-a-bitch, too, and richly deserves this badge of shame.

Republican Kris Kobach is a Trump loyalist who ran for and lost the Kansas governor's race in this deep red state. A Democrat will be sworn into office in January. Kobach is an anti-immigrant racist and peddler of bizarre conspiracy theories.

Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher lost his race for re-election to a seat he has held for nearly thirty years. Rohrabacher is another Trump loyalist who also has deep connections to Vladimir Putin. He also favors open discrimination against LGBT Americans.

For those keeping score at home, their close association with Trump undoubtedly doomed all three in this anti-Trump election year.
