The Gleeful Scammer

Greg Sargent at the Washington Post published an interesting piece yesterday (link here) about how Donald Trump delights in repeatedly lying to his base about a cruel but fictional policy he's enforcing.

On what are now dozens of occasions, Trump has repeated the lie at his rallies and in conservative media interviews that he's dumping migrant immigrants in so-called sanctuary cities. No such policy actually exists.

Trump does this, as the writer notes, "simply because he believes they’ll thrill to his claim that he is."

Of course, he embellishes his lie with the false claims that the "liberal" sanctuary cities are outraged he's doing this. Since no such plan actually exists, they have no actual reaction.

While Sargent doesn't mention it, Trump often repeats this lie in the same address with his elaborate lie that he's ordered a massive border wall hundreds of miles long that's nearly completed and already blocking thousands of immigrants a day. The only wall being built is actually a replacement fence where one already exists, and that was budgeted by the previous administration.

It's no wonder that Trump recently reached a new milestone of having told more than 10,000 lies in the twenty-seven months since he's been in office (details here).
