Dueling Lies

Vox published a great piece (link here) about yesterday's collision of Donald Trump's lies regarding border security.

The title says it perfectly: "Trump: I secured the border. Trump an hour later: I need billions for a wall to secure the border."

The lede sentence adds: "Trump wants you to believe that the southern border is now secured because of his tough measures. But he also wants you to believe the same border is in crisis and requires the construction of an expensive border wall to secure it."

The President tried this same failed strategy later yesterday when he met with the likely new Speaker of the House and Senate Minority Leader (details here and here). They didn't buy his bullshit for a nanosecond and completely rolled him, humiliating him on live television.

The reality is that Trump's lies are catching up with him. Everyone except his starry-eyed fans knows he's a habitual liar who will say whatever pops into his head. His dishonesty is part of the reason his power has peaked and is starting on the decline (details here and here).

I've said it here before: Trump is his own worst enemy.
