As a result, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has the upper hand and has put a hold on transmitting the articles of impeachment to the Senate (details here) until McConnell agrees on an honest, objective trial.
And now there are cracks in the wall on the GOP side with more moderate Republicans expressing displeasure at McConnell's strategy. Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski has openly criticized McConnell's approach (details here). And a Democratic Senator has revealed as many as ten Republican Senators are expressing similar displeasure behind closed doors (details here).
While Trump's removal requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate, only a simple majority is needed to determine how the trial would take place. So only a handful of GOP Senators are needed to break away from the pack in order to force McConnell's hand.
If you live in a state with a more moderate or independent Republican Senator, now is the time to demand he or she step forward and demand a fair, honest, and objective trial. You can find a directory with contact information for all current Senators here.
