The Report

The House Intelligence Committee released its impeachment inquiry report yesterday (details here; full report here). It will be no surprise to say it's absolutely scathing and damning.

"The impeachment inquiry has found that ... Trump, personally and acting through agents within and outside of the U.S. government, solicited the interference of a foreign government ... to benefit his reelection," the report concludes. He "compromised national security to advance his personal political interests."

The core of their case is the charge that Trump attempted to leverage White House favors and military aid, desperately needed by Ukraine, to pressure President Volodymyr Zelensky into launching an investigations of Joe Biden and his son Hunter and also into investigating a nonexistent Ukrainian conspiracy to help Democrats interfere with out 2016 presidential election. Given Ukraine was invaded by Russia and still is fighting a war with them means the military aid was absolutely essential to their survival as well as the stability of Europe.

If Donald Trump were to be tried by an ordinary impartial jury, there's no doubt he would be convicted based on the voluminous evidence this report references. That could be why he's sending no defense lawyers to the House Judiciary Committee hearings because they realize they have no valid defense and an appearance would only underscore that fatal deficiency . So they will attempt to try the case in the court of public confusion, with willing handmaidens from the GOP ranks of Congress to do their fraudulent bidding for them.

They are likely to acquit Trump in his all-but-certain Senate trial. After winning that battle, hopefully they'll lose the war and badly with Trump being defeated and Republicans losing control of the Senate while remaining the minority party in the House.
