One was decorated veteran Alexander Vindman, a national security expert on Ukraine, and the other was Gordon Sondland, ambassador to the European Union, who had donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural fund.
He also fired Vindman's brother, notwithstanding the latter never testified and didn't have anything to do with the investigation.
Vindman had been the White House's most qualified and experienced Ukraine expert. Hence, the firing done in malice actually negatively impacts national security.
And in Sondland's case, the White House had demanded he testify. Apparently Trump and his people thought he'd commit perjury and lie about what the President said.
Instead, he told the truth and has been fired as a result.
Before the firings, at least four Republican Senators reached out to Trump and urged him not to fire the officials (details here). Trump just ignored them and did it anyway.
Of course he ignored them. By acquitting him last week, they sent him the message he could do whatever he wanted and that they would put party before country and back him up.
Some Senators thought Trump would be chastened and humbled by the impeachment proceedings. They were either hopelessly naive or outright fools.
Even the briefest study of the narcissistic Trump would reveal he never thinks he's wrong and thinks everyone's out to get him. He is incapable of being chastened and humbled. He is a thug.
All the more reason he must be defeated in November. He's a dangerous menace to this nation's security and the people's well being.
