Wallowing

Yesterday, the Washington Post broke the story (link here or here) that the Secret Service is racking up massive bills from having to stay at Donald Trump's private clubs that they must use each time the President stays at his own properties. And that taxpayer money is going straight into Trump's pocket.

Although both Trump and his son have at various times claimed agents stay for free or pay only $50 per night, the Secret Service has actually paid as much as $650 per night per room, the full fare. Because the White House has failed to file necessary disclosures on expenditures as required by law, only a fraction of the picture can be seen so far.

One has to wonder why Trump is even at his properties. When he was campaigning, he promised: "I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done. I would not be a President who took vacations. I would not be a President that takes time off."

That, of course, was a massive lie. To date, he has spent a third of his presidency vacationing at his own resorts, at least 342 days. And, of course, the Secret Service has had to accompany him on every one of those trips and paid full price for rooms every single one of those 342 days.

Trump promised to "drain the swamp." Instead, he has created his own lucrative swamp from which he rakes millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars to line his own pockets.

And we taxpayers, you and me, are paying for every last dollar of this obscene, extravagant corruption.
