Self-Sabotage

I've written here more than once that many times Donald Trump is his own worst enemy. Nowhere has that been more true than in his campaigning this year.

He's trying to run for reelection. At the same time, through his press conference meltdowns and rage tweeting, he's repeatedly reminding voters what a terrible President he has turned out to be.

Two op-eds yesterday underscore how he's sabotaging his own campaign and that of down-ballot Republicans.

First comes a piece from former GOP Congressman and current TV host Joe Scarborough (link here). It's titled "Trump’s racism will bring his party down with him."

An excerpt: "Trump can’t help himself. The former reality-TV host was warned by White House staff, his campaign team, financial contributors and Republicans on Capitol Hill that his afternoon news conferences were causing political damage. But after a weekend of tweeting out conspiracy theories about former presidents and insults aimed at cable-news pundits, the president was at it again Monday. And, true to form, Trump burned himself."

The other piece comes from anti-Trump Republican pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson (link here). Her piece is called "Trump reelection in big trouble amid struggles with seniors."

An excerpt: "I am here to tell Republicans that while their struggle with younger voters still remains a critical long-term challenge, an even graver short-term threat has emerged: declining support among seniors."

Both writers can see the writing on the wall. Trump is poison for Republicans. But most GOPers seem determined to drink that poison yet again by sticking with Trump.

I say great news. Would you like me to pour you another glass Republicans?
