Confidential memos about Donald Trump sent by the British Ambassador in Washington to the British Foreign Office were printed by the media over the weekend (details here and here).

Needless to say, these honest, unvarnished assessments, which are not intended to be read by the public, are brutally candid.

"We don't really believe this Administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept," the ambassador wrote.

As for how to deal effectively with Trump, the ambassador advised: "you need to start praising him for something that he's done recently." In other words, the best way to deal with Trump is to treat him like a spoiled, overgrown child and shower him with false praise.

Reading the memos, I was struck with this thought -- if one of America's closest allies is saying this about Trump, what are the adversaries saying?
