It Will Get Worse

This past week saw Donald Trump attempt to distance himself several times from the ugly, racist remarks he made about four congresswomen of color only to see him re-embrace the comments several times by doubling down on them. The whole on-off strategy was reminiscent of the aftershocks following his embrace of the Charlottesville white supremacists.

More than a few columnists have written this week about how Trump's ugly and racist behavior and rhetoric will only worsen in the course of the 2020 campaign. That's really the only recourse he has left to save his job because he can't run on any record from his corrupt, incompetent, and directionless presidency.

I disagree with David Brooks many times, but I thought he was spot on with his piece in the New York Times on Thursday (link here) with the title "Donald Trump Hates America." Simply put, Trump hates what's good about America and embraces that which is bad.

His vision for America is hateful, racist, misogynistic, greedy, and cruel. That is not our vision. That is why we must work as hard as we can to see that he's defeated on election day. He's done enough damage to America already.
