In Plain Sight

On Wednesday night, Donald Trump revoked the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan (details here). The rationale for this decision was allegedly Brennan's "erratic conduct and behavior."

Don't be fooled. Brennan has harshly and repeatedly criticized Trump in articulate and measured words, both in interviews and articles. Anyone who has ever observed the level-headed Brennan on television knows that he's the opposite of erratic.

While it had never been done before by any President, Trump can revoke any former official's security clearance. They are allowed to keep their security clearance so that they can assist later administrations in classified consultations.

It only took a few hours, however, for Trump to slip up and reveal the real reason for pulling the security clearance in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (details here). The President admitted he had done it because Brennan once chaired the special intelligence group inside the government that began the investigation into the Trump campaign's possible collusion with Russia and the Kremlin.

As a result of Brennan having his security clearance pulled, his ability to assist both the CIA and Special Counsel Robert Mueller's criminal investigation of Trump and his circle may be limited.

In other words, Donald Trump has once admitted in an interview to having obstructed justice.

The President is now exploring pulling at least nine other former officials' security clearances for individuals also involved in the Russia investigation. Per a Washington Post piece published last night (link here):

"Trump has told advisers that he is eager to strip more security clearances as part of an escalating attack against people who have criticized him or played a role in the investigation of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign."

Democrats, of course, are outraged at Trump's potentially illegal behavior once again. And even some Republican members of Congress are speaking out against this.

The President is using his office in every way he can to shut down and silence an investigation into his possibile criminal activities. When is Congress finally going to get off its ass and put country before party?

What's it going to take before Congress finally begins impeachment proceedings? A tweet from Trump bragging about how he's obstructing justice?

This is why Republicans need to be swept from power in this November's midterm elections. Volunteer and vote. This has to stop.
