That's what most people would do and certainly what all previous Presidents would have done.
But not Trump. He spent the travel time to and from the two cities rage tweeting about presidential candidates, elected officials, and television personalities (details here). In a day that should have been about quiet dignity, he was as ugly as he could possibly be.
The White House barred reporters from much of Trump's visits. They nonetheless released photographs with Trump posed with a big smile on his face and making thumbs up signs as he stood with various individuals, as if it was a day of campaigning and not mourning. The photos were all about him and nothing about the tragedy.
The man has no shame and there's no depth to which he will not stoop.
