The lede para captures the essence nicely: "Even for a bottomless pit of narcissism like Donald Trump, Wednesday was an exceptional day for self-aggrandizement. Early in the day, Trump tweeted quotes from one of his more sycophantic — and unhinged — followers, Wayne Allyn Root, calling Trump the 'King of Israel' and 'the second coming of God.' Later that day, when speaking to reporters, Trump embraced the prophet identity again, calling himself 'the Chosen One,' in response to a question about trade dealings with China."
This is the same Trump who has lived a life that breaks nearly all of the Ten Commandments. He's obviously largely ignorant of Christianity, as his past babblings have made clear.
The fact that evangelicals would then think he was chosen by God only shows their extreme myopia. He is no more religious than a Cocker Spaniel.
A part of me is disgusted at Trump's shameless demagoguery. His ego is raging out of control.
But another part of me hopes he keeps this up. This kind of behavior has to disgust a whole lot more people than who admire it. Keep turning people away from you, Donny. Keep giving them reasons to vote against you.
The latest Associated Press poll released yesterday gives me hope (details here): 62 percent of Americans said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing. Only 36 percent approve.
If such dismal numbers continue for him, that gives him a particularly weak chances for re-election.
