With all the talk of the coronavirus right now, that made me think back to the outrageous promises about health care that Trump made during the 2016 campaign.
The most extreme, of course, was his promise to replace the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, with something far superior and much cheaper.
"Together we’re going to deliver real change that once again puts Americans first," Trump promised the month before the 2016 election. "That begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare... You’re going to have such great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost — and it’s going to be so easy." (Source here with video footage.)
Three-and-a-half years later, so-called "Trumpcare" is nonexistent. All Trump has done is to cause millions of people to lose their health insurance with no replacement in sight. Republicans controlled Congress for two solid years but produced no insurance plan. "So easy" my ass.
"With a Republican House and Senate, we will immediately repeal and replace the disaster known as Obamacare," he promised. "We will do it very, very quickly." So he got that GOP-controlled Congress and, as noted, produced a big fat nothing as a result.
