On April 13, Trump retweeted a "Fire Fauci" diatribe because Dr. Anthony Fauci, on television, repeatedly corrected Trump's absurdly optimistic claims about Covid-19 and because he said Trump was outright wrong on more than one occasion. "Firing Fauci" became a common rant among the pro-Trumpers because Fauci was opposed to "opening up" the economy, relaxing social distancing, and more. In short, he was not loyal to Trump and refused to peddle the party line.
This has been Trump's spiel since the Spring, endlessly pushing false claims about Covid-19 and saying the economy must reopen and now.
It turns out the very same day that Trump retweeted "Fire Fauci" for opposing his opening up push, Trump said the following to Woodward: "It’s so easily transmissible, you wouldn’t even believe it." Trump then went on to recount how everyone bailed out of the Oval Office in mid-April because one person sneezed (source here).
Trump knew Covid-19 was deadly and very easily transmittable. Yet at the same time he was pushing to end social distancing restrictions and for everything to go back to normal.
He simply didn't care if that meant hundreds of thousands more people would die. He just did not care. He still doesn't care. He never will care. As long as he's okay, that's all that matters to him.
