Reckless, Atrocious, and Deceitful

Donald Trump held two campaign rallies in Nevada over the weekend. The first was outdoors with about 5,000 people. The second had some 5,600 people indoors and 20,000 people outdoors in overflow areas.

People were crammed close together at both events, both outdoors and indoors. This was because Trump doesn't like seeing gaps in the audience. Very few attendees wore masks. Social distancing was non-existent at both events, both outside and inside. Shouting was commonplace, notwithstanding that's a fantastic way to spread Covid-19.

Both events violated Nevada state law, where group events over fifty people are forbidden during the pandemic.

Later, when questioned by the media about the lack of social distancing and masks at the event, Trump said not to worry — he was kept well back from the crowds. That gives you a clear picture of Trump's brain at work — as long as he is okay that's all the matters. Fuck anybody in the crowd who gets sick and dies.

The fact that a President of the United States would host such an event in the middle of a pandemic is mind-boggling. Trump and his cult truly live in an alternative reality.

The Bulwark published a good piece on the spectacle yesterday (link here) with the title "Trump’s Reckless, Atrocious, Deceitful Rally." The secondary title is "The spittle was flying. So were the lies."

Let's end this national catastrophe by firing Trump on Election Day, November third.
