As one pundit put it afterwards, Trump faced the toughest questioning at the event since becoming President. His handling of many questions was nothing short of disastrous (details here and here).
As the first link above notes, "Trump often praised his own performance and said problems were the fault of others. He said he would not do anything differently with regard to his response to the pandemic, despite nearly 200,000 Americans having died from the outbreak."
When he wasn't outright lying or praising himself or blaming others for everything that went wrong, which was a majority of the time, his responses were often nonsensical and bizarre.
His most surreal comment of the night was an attempt to blame Joe Biden, who is not President, for failing to impose a national mask mandate. Did Trump forget he himself is President?
At other times Trump clearly showed his grasp on the most basic concepts is shaky at best. Yet again, he repeated his assurance that the coronavirus would magically disappear and babbled incoherently about "herd mentality." The concept he was grasping for is "herd immunity."
The audience was made up of undecided voters. After the event, those questioned said they would not be voting for Trump. It's no wonder.
The election is less than seven weeks away. Time is running out to register, which must be done in advance of election day in most states. To register or to check registration status, click here.
