Sergent walks thorugh seven incidents where Donald Trump corruptly tried to use government to better his reelection chances and yet failed spectacularly all seven times. Many of these involve the Covid19 pandemic, which instead of him working to solve, Trump has focused more on leveraging it to give what he thinks will be a reelection advantage.
Take, for instance, a possible coronavirus vaccine. Trump repeatedly promised it would be available before Election Day, which is absurd on its face. Vaccines take time and can run into all sorts of scientific stumbling blocks. Consider how long HIV has been around and how an effective vaccine still remains elusive.
Yet Trump thought a vaccine could be rushed to suit his whims. To meet his Election Day promise, he was willing to discard all sorts of medical and scientific safeguards.
Gerald Ford tried to do that by rushing a swine flu vaccine before Election Day in 1976; it failed spectacularly because it didn't work effectively and made many people very seek. And now, no surprise, Trump's vaccine promise is yet another gigantic lie.
Fortunately, a large majority of Americans knows not to trust any vaccine pushed by Trump. Recent surveys showed a full 70 percent of Americans would not get a Covid19 vaccine when Trump said it was ready and safe. That's a damning commentary on his failed presidency.
