Exposed

Yesterday afternoon, the New York Times dropped another one of their articles (link here) about Donald Trump's unseen tax returns, which he never released to the public despite years of promises that he would do so.

In what should not be a surprise, the article clearly demonstrates that Trump is not at all generous with charities, despite repeated claims that he is. Nearly all of his tax write-offs have been in the form of property easements, meaning he never actually gives anything to any charity but simply agrees not to fully develop tracts of land that he still holds.

In another instance, he gave undeveloped land to the state of New York because he could not obtain approval to develop it. On his taxes, however, he wrote off a value seventeen times what he paid for the land notwithstanding it could not be developed and thus had little actual value.

Several of these schemes are now under investigation for possible criminal prosecution because the land value appears to have been wildly inflated well beyond actual value to enlarge the size of his tax writeoffs.

The biggest cash gift that he ever gave was to his own charity, which was later forced by prosecutors to close because it had engaged in self dealing and fraud.

Trump has also claimed to have given large gifts which he never made. In other words, he outright lied.

He said, for instance, he had given the profits from one of his books to a veterans charity. He never actually gave them a single dollar.

Some have speculated that Trump ran for office so that he could not be prosecuted for various crimes. But by becoming President, he may have inadvertently turned a much brighter spotlight on his own financial history, thus priming himself for prosecution once he leaves office.
