A Topsy-Turvy Day

Yesterday saw a wild media cycle. Unsavory reports continued to circulate about Donald Trump's embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. More details were fleshed out about the various sex crime accusations he faced with further documentation and some corroborating witnesses against him.

All that was pushed to the background, however, when reports began appearing in the media that Trump had either fired Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or that the latter had resigned. As you will recall, Rosenstein oversees the criminal investigation into Trump and his associates that's being conducted by Robert Mueller and associates.

Immediately, people began speculating what this meant for the future of Mueller's investigation. Would a replacement try to shut it down?

Not long after, newer media reports surfaced that revealed Rosenstein wasn't leaving and would be meeting with Trump late in the week.

An article in Vanity Fair late yesterday brought clarity (details here) to the situation. The Trump White House was deliberately circulating the false story to drive the Kavanaugh news off the front page. But this was after Trump actually considered firing Rosenstein simply to create a distracting new scandal.

The fact that Trump and his people are happy to supply misinformation and outright lie for the benefit of a few hours face saving is appalling. The fact that Trump would deliberately fire someone, causing all sorts of personal issues, just to benefit himself is equally disgusting.

Just when it seems the Trump administration and the President can stoop no lower, they turn around and surprise us once again.
