The Operative

Yesterday, the Justice Department announced the indictment of a Russian national close to the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin on charges she was attempting to interfere with next month's midterm elections (details here and here).

She was charged with running a foreign influence operation meant "to sow discord in the U.S. political system" by spreading lies and pushing outrageous arguments on a variety of hot-button political issues like immigration, the Confederate flag, gun control, and national anthem protests.

Interestingly, this operation was pushing the very topics that Donald Trump often rants on endlessly at his rallies and on Twitter to sow discord.

When a reporter attempted to ask Trump about the arrest yesterday , the President interrupted and said unprompted "had nothing to do with my campaign. You know, all of the hackers and all of the — everybody that you see, nothing to do with my campaign. If the hackers — a lot of them probably like Hillary Clinton better than me. Now they do. Now they do."

The man doth protest too much, methinks.
