Revolutionary

During his July Fourth speech at the National Mall in Washington, Donald Trump said "The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown. Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare, it had nothing but victory" (source here).

What?

The Revolutionary War happened in the eighteenth century. Manned flight -- and airports -- didn't come along until the twentieth century.

And what was that gibberish about Fort McHenry? The famous battle there didn't happen during the Revolutionary War but, instead, during the War of 1812 in the following century.

Trump blamed his misstatement on a faulty teleprompter. But then he said the faulty teleprompter didn't matter since he knew the speech by heart anyway.

It's likely Trump didn't realize during the speech he had made such an error because it wasn't patently obvious to him. He proudly admits he never read a book from start to finish. So his knowledge of history must be very marginal at best.

A mistake like this is obvious. So just imagine all the other mistakes he makes behind the scenes due to his ignorance, mistakes that are made out of the public eye.

Let that sink in. We have a proudly ignorant man running this nation. And many would not see that as a major problem.
