Bribed

While the coronavirus pandemic dominated the news yesterday, what should have been a huge scandal barely made a ripple — ProPublica broke the story (link here) that Donald Trump's company routinely bribed city officials to reduce the property taxes on various New York buildings he's owned. This was confirmed by five city officials, including two who received the bribes, plus a former Trump employee.

There's no indication of whether Trump himself knew about the bribes. At the same time, why would an employee do something like this when he or she didn't have an ownership interest?

The article does not indicate whether these bribes can still be prosecuted now or if that would be blocked by a statute of limitations. New York prosecutors have aggressively gone after Trump and his family for other possible crimes, so if a statute of limitations is not an impediment, one can expect the same here.

And the House of Representatives needs to open an official inquiry about this. America cannot afford to have a criminal as a head of state.
