Risky Fingers

Yesterday, in a taunt to Iran, Donald Trump tweeted a classified photo of a rocket on fire at the Imam Khomeini Space Center (details here). While any other government employee would be criminally prosecuted for doing this, a President is the one person who can release any classified material without penalty.

Of course, while it might be lawful to do it, it certainly isn't prudent. Now the Iranians and all of America's other adversaries know more about how the United States watches from the sky.

In short, there was no good reason to do this and many bad reasons to do so, like the President was a childish fool with poor impulse control and an inability to keep a secret. This is far from being the first time Trump has been reckless with classified material.

If President Obama had done this, Republicans in Congress would be crowding the airwaves right now condemning it as a breach of national security and calling for his impeachment. But of course Obama would not do something like this. And of course Trump would.

Election Day is fourteen months from this coming Tuesday. We can finally end this nightmare.
