Stunning Incoherence

Donald Trump's public performance at the G-7 summit this past weekend in Biarritz was nothing short of surreal. Indeed, the Washington Post published an excellent editorial yesterday (link here) with the title "Trump gives a stunning display of incoherence at the G-7."

Trump reminds me of the old fable about the emperor's new clothes. The emperor's sycophants adore his new clothes, but when he goes out in public, everyone laughs, because he's revealed to be wearing nothing at all.

Trump was, however, perfectly coherent at the G-7 when he argued for Vladimir Putin to be readmitted to the summit to bring it back to the G-8. The other participants vetoed the idea for many good reasons.

He also was perfectly coherent when he proposed the site for the G-7's next big meeting -- his own Doral resort in Florida. That would put millions in his own pocket and the other attending countries would have no choice but to fork over the money to pay for accommodations.

As well, the American taxpayers will pay the check for Trump's support staff to stay at his own hotel he refuses to discount at cost. He claims to be "draining the swamp," but what he's refilling it with is far more toxic.
