Mourning

In 1984, Ronald Reagan's reelection campaign ran an advertisement that's come to be known as "Morning in America" (details here). It was a cheery, upbeat piece that highlighted what the candidate saw as his accomplishments.

Earlier this week, the Republican anti-Trump group Lincoln Project released a powerful ad called "Mourning in America" (link here) which copies many of the lines from Reagan's spot but flip them on their head to underscore how disastrous the current presidency has been. It's a chilling message for anyone who remembers Reagan's sunny optimism.

Not surprising, Donald Trump had a two-day-long meltdown about the ad and couldn't stop talking about it (details here and here). Had Trump kept his yap shut, the ad would've been seen by only a few thousand. Now it's been seen by nearly two million.

Trump can't rebut the ad itself. So all he can do is attack those who created it. They played him masterfully, and he walked right into their trap, bringing along a camera crew to record his unraveling.
