Maladministration

Donald Trump's apologists have tried to paint the current impeachment process as something that runs contrary to all previous endeavors. As a great piece in the New Yorker by historian Jill Lepore demonstrates (link here), that's malarkey.

In America's 230 years of constitutional existence, there have only been eighteen impeachments and, to date, only two of those of a President (most of the remainder were for judges). That works out to an average of once every twelve years. And as Lepore's fascinating piece demonstrates, the rules each time have been quite fluid.

Of course, it's quite telling that Trump's defenders keep attacking the impeachment process underway. That's because they know the substance of the complaint is quite damaging to the President, so they don't even want to go there and are trying to keep you distracted. Don't let them.
