In this week's issue, The New Yorker is running an in-depth profile (link here) of Michael Pompeo, who currently serves as Donald Trump's secretary of state. Pompeo is widely seen as one of Trump's most loyal and unquestioning staffers.

Curiously, in 2016, he was avowedly anti-Trump. He's much like current Acting White House Chief of Staff John Michael Mulvaney, who went from a never-Trumper to being a slavish follower who will do anything the President tells him to do.

What is with people like these two who completely abandon their principles and embrace someone they once considered their enemy? Is it the allure of power? Whatever the answer, their historical legacy will be wretched. They will never be forgiven for enabling the corrupt, incompetent Trump administration.
