Eater of Souls

Former FBI Director James Comey -- who Donald Trump fired in a failed attempt to stop the investigation into his campaign -- wrote an interesting op-ed for the New York Times (link here) that captures how the President morally destroys anyone who works for him. It's a step-by-step process that Comey identifies stage by stage.

Quite often, such people are chewed up and spat out by Trump once he's tired of abusing them or they've worn out their usefulness to him. And some of them end up indicted and in prison. "Trump eats your soul in small bites," Comey writes.

There are exceptions, and Comey identifies one in particular -- James Mattis, the former Secretary of Defense who quit when he'd had enough of Trump. Although not identifies, Trump's second National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster would be another who bailed on the President.

Over at the New Yorker, Susan Glasser penned an excellent piece (link here) that echoes the same sentiment and quotes Comey's piece discussed above. She then identifies more people who have debased themselves working for and supporting Trump, including those who once vocally opposed him.

One's left wondering if Trump does this deliberately when he grinds down all those around him or is he just so busy talking about himself and praising himself that he doesn't even notice.
