The Real Reason

Donald Trump continues his lies about "massive" election fraud because he can't admit he lost. His lawyer admitted to the judge in his Pennsylvania lawsuit that they have no evidence of any fraud, whilst GOP officials in Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan conceded Trump had lost and that there was no fraud.

For the most part, with some notable exceptions, Republicans on Capitol Hill have at least tepidly gone along with Trump's claims, generally admitting there's no obvious fraud but that matters should be investigated. There's a reason for this, and it has nothing to do with Trump.

The Washington Post published a piece about this yesterday (link here) and the title gives away the reason: "Fear of losing Senate majority in Georgia runoffs drives GOP embrace of Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud."

A prominent Republican quoted in the article explains why: "These runoffs have become the political equivalent of Braveheart where everyone paints their face blue and just charges across the field. If we can get the Trump vote back out in the suburbs, we should be able to get this done. But it will be very hard and extremely competitive."

And we can all make the job harder for Republicans in Georgia. If Democrats win both seats in the January 5 election, then Democrats will have a Senate majority, which will help President-elect Joe Biden tremendously.

I wrote an entry here a few days ago about how we can all help, even those of us who aren't in Georgia. Please refer to that post to learn more about how you can assist.
