The thesis of the piece defines Trump and his presidency: he revels in a false sense of masculinity. His maleness is not the modern twenty-first century man, but a regressive one from the earlier part of the twentieth century. His perfect man is a bigot, a sexist, a homophobe who treats women as potential conquests and accessories.
The Trumpist man doesn't ask or negotiate; he just takes. Tough shit if you don't like it. Trumpist men deserve better treatment simply because they are white heterosexual Anglo-Saxon men. This is a world where men rule, women submit without protest, people of color know their place, and other sexual orientations don't belong.
Fortunately, Trump will be gone in two days. His debasements, however, will linger. But they ultimately can be purged. We will embrace the future, not an idealized past that never existed.
